Fr. Ron packed up his things as he moved to Wisconsin this past week. He was surprised that he had this, that, and the other thing. Where did I get this? When did I get this? Who gave it to me and why? During our lifetime we accumulate many things that have great meaning when we get them. But no one takes much with them when they die. What do we take and what do we leave behind? Things are things. My nieces and nephews are not big on my mother’s things. Antique stores don’t want them either because us older folks already have enough stuff. What we leave behind is the example we have left for those who follow us. Giving back to God, in gratitude for Him having “loaned” us the things we have, is a powerful example. It keeps us, and those who follow behind, cognizant that all things come from and return to God. In your giving to this faith community are you aware that you are teaching those who follow after you that you believe and practice giving thanks to God by your participation in the parish? And that summarizes what CPL, Commitment to Parish Life is all about.
