Did you know that almost 10% of our parishioners move out while others move into the parish every year? Years ago, we encouraged everyone to stop at a name tag table on the way into the church and to write your name on the tag. People then get to know you because most people tend to sit in the same place week after week. When you know people, you tend to feel like you are among friends. I have seen young children who are learning to write put down 'Mom" and "dad". I will usually smile when I call them by that name when they receive communion. They will also. And I have seen kids who are not old enough to write yet, still put a scrawl down for their name. Sometimes their scrawl is easier to read then my handwriting. This simple tool helps make us aware that we have joined together to make a Commitment to Parish Life, just as we make a commitment in our homes.
