Last week I did a brief explanation of what Commitment to Parish Life is and why we do it. Today I want to elaborate just a bit. When kids come to confession, one of the things they say frequently is that they do not do their chores or listen to mom and dad. I point out to them that family is like a team. Mom and dad provide the food, clothing, and housing. They are asked to contribute to the family team by doing things that can be done quickly, but are also important. Things such as take the dog for a walk, clean their room, set or clean the table, and even taking out the garbage. Mom and dad did not forget how to do those things, but they want the child to be an important part of the family so they ask the child to do things they can. Doing so will help the child feel wanted and needed but most importantly, loved. The same is true for adults in a parish setting. The more you give, the more you feel you are important. And you are. What can you give to the parish to be a full, active, member of St. Joseph the Worker?
