“Children are to be welcomed, cherished, protected.” – Pope Francis
Dorothy Pisarski is newer to the parish but has spent no time waiting to show her Commitment to Parish Life in various forms. During Sunday morning Masses, you may see her teaching Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW), where the daily reading is explained and discussed so that children can better understand it. Dorothy states, “When we gather children for Children’s Liturgy of the Word, it is to help them break open the Word of God, to give children the opportunity to think about the messages from the readings and to share on how those messages apply to their lives as they do chores, ride a school bus, or play with others.”
According to Dorothy, “every week there’s a new favorite memory.” One week a child interrupted a discussion amazed after connecting that God is our father in heaven. Another pulled Dorothy over to say that home life didn’t include much talk about God, and that they were grateful to be in CLOW.
Dorothy felt called to volunteer with CLOW. She states, “If I had any doubts at all, they were dispelled one day when a child chided me for sitting with the choir during a Mass when we had no Children’s Liturgy because we lacked a volunteer. Absolutely, it was God speaking to me through a child. ‘Don’t just sit there, Dorothy, do something!’”
She recommends leading Children’s Liturgy to anyone considering, saying “give it to God and He will lead you.” To learn more about Children’s Liturgy of the Word and how you can put your faith into action, contact Terri Nelson in the parish office or https://sjtw.net/commitment-to-parish-life.
