Confirmation 2026 will be on Monday, May 11. We will be at the Cathedral in St. Paul for this year's celebration!
Confirmation Preparation
Confirmation preparation at SJTW is a 2-year process which typically begins in 10th grade. Confirmation Candidates receive the Sacrament the spring of 11th grade (they can start a year later if desired).
The preparation experience challenges our candidates to discover their own God-given gifts, talents and interests and to use them in their journey of discipleship.
Confirmation Events
Confirmation candidates attend the OneWith Faith Formation program at St. Joseph the Worker as their main formation component. This is supplemented with other dates/pieces that are specifically related to Confirmation.
This includes a "Confirmation Kickoff" event in the fall of 10th grade, and a Confirmation Sponsor Night in the winter during 11th grade. There are also retreats for each year of Confirmation - those are offsite events that are planned & run by St. Joseph the Worker's Retreat Team (teen leaders & adult leaders who are trained & developed for the role). The 10th grade retreat is an all-day event, the 11th grade retreat is an overnight event. Both are very highly regarded by our students - many consider the retreats the best part of our youth programs!
Service Projects
Confirmation Candidates are asked to complete 3 volunteer service projects over their 2 years of Confirmation preparation. Candidates are responsible to pick their project and complete a reflection. Students in 11th grade (Confirmation II) for the 2023-24 year should have their forms filled out by April 7, 2024.
Confirmation Candidates are asked to choose a Confirmation Sponsor in January during their first year of Confirmation preparation and complete the online form. Students enrolled in 2025-2026 should have their sponsor selected by January 11, 2026. Students getting confirmed in 2027 should select their sponsors by the start of the 11th grade OneWith year in late September. Confirmation Sponsor Form is here.
Ministry Partners Form
Candidates also will participate in some ministries in the church - to start learning how they will participate in (and contribute to) the church as active disciples. Jesus talks about our participation in the “Kingdom of God” more than any other topic in the Gospels. So if our teens are being confirmed into full participation in the church – that means they need to find their place in the church! Students will try at least 3 different ministries in the parish, to see where they might want to get involved. Questions to consider when choosing what to do:
What do you want to do in your faith now, and after being Confirmed?
What interests or helps you about your faith?
Where can you contribute to your faith?
How can you keep growing in it after OneWith or Confirmation is done?
Confirmation II Candidates also choose a Confirmation Name, the details on this are below. The form is due by the first Sunday in April each year, so we can have time to enter the information into the Sacramental records.
