“…let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
- Matthew 5:16
John O’Dwyer volunteered for Hope Week along with the teens from the OneWith class he taught and has loved it ever since! During Hope Week, volunteers help at Mobile Hope in Dayton, a mobile home community, by cleaning yards, painting, building decks, and making a difference in the lives of those in the neighborhood.
John loves seeing the impact he’s made on the people he helps. “In all of these activities, one theme stood out to me. The smile on the faces of the people we were helping. How grateful they were for our help, more importantly that someone was there with them and listened to their stories.”
During his time teaching OneWith, one of the key themes discussed is using and sharing the gifts we all have. He saw Christ in action through his students, and especially during Hope Week, giving their gifts to others. “To watch our young leaders engage and give back to the community is very inspiring to me (and gives me great hope for the future).”
Are you thinking about signing up for Hope Week? Don’t hesitate! You don’t need to be an expert, just be willing to help! “I believe if you are able to give back - then you should. This is a great way to do so that has real impacts on families.” John says.
