“Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers,”
– Hebrews 13:2
Hospitality is more than a kind word or a friendly smile—it is a reflection of God’s love. Sue Pocta, whose warmth and generosity have touched countless lives in our parish community, gives her time at the Welcome Desk in the gathering space once a month after Mass. She offers a warm greeting to parishioners and answers any questions they might have. Her commitment to the Welcome Desk is just one example of the many ways she has served St. Joseph the Worker. Sue serves as Eucharistic minister, money counter, sacristan, and more always bringing the same joyful heart to each ministry she serves.
She loves hearing those that are new to the parish react to the vibrancy of our community – one woman stopped by to show her admiration for Cultural Heritage Sunday, saying she wanted to be certain to bring her kids next year!
As a convert to Catholicism, Sue has grown in her relationship with God at SJTW over the past 20 years because of Fr. Mike and the parishioners sharing their faith lives here. Her story is a testament to how our parish is not just a place of worship, but a family that nurtures and strengthens one another in Christ.
Sue gives words of advice for those looking to help at the Welcome Desk; “Just participate with a welcoming heart. You might frequently be asked questions you do not have the answers for. Be willing to search out for responses even if you need to call the office the next day and follow through with a phone call to the person that asked.” Our parish thrives because of dedicated, faith-filled individuals like Sue.
