Calendar for 2024-25 High School Formation
The OneWith program is our high school Faith Formation program at St. Joseph the Worker, and it is a program unlike any other!
This liturgy-based program meets approximately 2 Sundays a month, starting late September and going through April (our Confirmation dates are generally in early May). One of the sessions each month includes a version of a teaching Mass (usually the first Sunday of the month), helping our students to better connect with and understand the Mass.
These teaching Masses are not just for the students to learn - but also to participate. All of our high school groups rotate serving in various liturgical ministries throughout the year, helping with everything from greeting to the song slides to being lectors. Students learn how to contribute to the Mass, how to engage with it and reflect on it more, and to get more out of the readings, homilies, prayers, liturgical symbols and more. This even includes some group reflection time on each of these evenings, for students to process together and learn to approach their faith in a more mature way.
On teaching Mass nights, families are encouraged to join us as well for the Mass (usually beginning just after 5:30 after a brief opening lesson). Because of the teachings and reflection, Mass ends around 7 PM, when students head to their small groups for the last half hour - and enjoy dinner in their small groups as well. We want the connection to the Eucharist as a meal - and the importance of "breaking bread together" as disciples - to sink in.
Our non-Mass session each month is a more traditional model of high school formation, featuring a mixture of large group and small group time. Large group time includes a talk or lesson for the week, faith activities or games and prayer. Small groups enjoy time to share, discuss the topics and ask questions, as well as do additional prayer and activities. The non-Mass sessions are when we dive into our yearly topics as well. For 9th grade, that means going through the Creed. Our older grades rotate between focusing on the Eucharist and on Scripture (so that between 10-11th grade, they will learn both topics).
The program is a dynamic, fast-paced and fun experience for our teens. The use of interactive learning methods and activities helps bring the topics to life, while the focus on engagement means our students practice truly living their faith as well. We hope you'll consider trying out our unique program at St. Joe's, to be one with the community, in pursuit of being one with Christ!
Meets 2 Sundays per month, from 5:30 - 7:30 PM for High School students
