Did you know that Commitment to Parish Life (CPL) funding supports the mission of our parish through more than 50 ministries and community partnerships? Pope Francis says, “Jesus’ words are clear: If we want life to triumph over death, and dignity to be redeemed from injustice, we need to follow Christ’s path of poverty, sharing our lives out of love, breaking the bread of our daily existence with our brothers and sisters, beginning with the least of them, those who lack the very essentials of life.”
One of these “essentials of life” is shelter. Your CPL contribution has made it possible for our parishioners to participate in building homes through Habitat for Humanity.
Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit housing organization that helps people seeking adequate housing solutions to build, repair, and renovate a place they can call home. For parishioner Dan Falstad, seeing the families that come out and work alongside the volunteers in order to obtain safe and secure housing makes his 20+ years of service with Habitat all worth it. Even after giving 20 years of service, he hopes to dedicate even more time once he retires. When asked about his favorite Habitat memory over the years, he said, "Taking my daughter along on a build as a teenager. She volunteers on her own for Habitat projects now."
Your generous support of Commitment to Parish Life (CPL) helps SJTW to (quite literally) build community. Dan says, "The volunteers, especially the financial sponsors, are giving these families hope and a chance at a comfortable life they wouldn't have in the absence of affordable housing." Thank you, Dan, for answering Jesus' call to shelter the homeless! What a wonderful way to show love and kindness to those in need.
If you would like to join Dan and other volunteers from our parish, SJTW will be participating in a 2-week build (weekdays) August 14-25. To find out more information about our “Habitat” ministry, visit sjtw.net/habitat-for-humanity-1. For questions, contact Gloria Jordan at floglojo@gmail.com.
