One of the great things about St. Joseph the Worker is that our door is always open to doing funerals. Sometimes these people have no church but the one who died had some connection to the Catholic Church. So we provide the funeral services including music and meal. Probably the most amazing thing to these folks is that we do this free of charge. If people want to make a donation they are free to do so, but we do not set a charge for food or the service. Many parishioners work welcoming the family and friends, planning the service and doing the various tasks that go along with a funeral. Many more bring food and others come to help serve the meal. Funeral homes are equally surprised that we are the only church in the area that does this as a ministry. One wonderful side effect is that we always receive more than the cost so at the end of the fiscal year we are always in the black. With that surplus we buy things for the kitchen such as the coffee maker, ice maker, new glasses, new dishes, and anything else that makes the kitchen work better. Commitment to Parish Life ensures that the ministries we celebrate here have people and financial resources. Things work together when we all pitch in for our own Commitment. Thank you.
