Years ago I remember reading that a mother teaches her children how to. A father teaches them it is important by doing that. So mom may tell the child to eat their vegetables but if dad does not eat them, then the child will not either. So too in faith. Unless a child sees the dad praying or going to church, it is not important. When we began Commitment to Parish Live 10 years ago we did so with the knowledge that both parents needed to be involved so that our children could see the value of belonging to a faith community. There are lots of young couples with children in the parish. It is a delight to see so many at church. It is also encouraging to see so many dads taking responsibility to be directly involved in worship, care and teaching of their children. Your children will be stronger because of your commitment to the parish. You are teaching that a commitment to a parish is greatly rewarding.
