“Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.”
– Matthew 25:40
The Fischer family-Andy, Nicole, Gavin, and Cody- have been part of SJTW’s Reverse Halloween for the past 2 years. Reverse Halloween is a fun, annual event in which SJTW faith formation students decorate and pack goodie bags during one of their fall classes. The bags are then distributed by SJTW families, in costume, to our beloved elders in local senior living centers. It’s a beautiful way to bring smiles and connection to those who may feel isolated.
Andy and Nicole keep busy in many other parish groups such as the Knights of Columbus and Lady Knights, Faith Formation, and the Parish Retreat team. But when asked about their favorite memories from Reverse Halloween, they say, “Seeing the joy and surprise on the residents' faces always sticks with us. We also love when the residents try to give us something and are shocked that we are just there to treat them."
For the Fischer Family, every act of service is a way to serve God, and their advice for new participants is simple: “Be prepared to leave with a full heart. Such a simple gesture can have such an amazing impact. The more of us there are, the more excited the residents get to see us.”
