Giving of our talents is at the heart of CPL (Commitment to Parish Life). “He who sings,” said St. Augustine, “prays twice.” The holy Bishop of Hippo emphasizes that singing adds to our praise and worship of God—that our voices are gifts, with which we can make music to the Lord. When we ask parishioners what drew them to SJTW, one common answer is the music. Music holds a vital part of our worship. It comes from the soul and heart. Together, we lift our voices together in prayer during mass, but with music we bring our prayer to a new joyful level.
Terri Kavanaugh, a dedicated member of our 8:30 AM choir, as well as a talented cantor and pianist, employs her beautiful voice to honor our magnificent Creator. Terri shares that despite holding two music degrees, she kept her musical talents hidden for many years. However, after reevaluating, she joined the SJTW music ministry in 2018 and is so glad she did! She states, "It has become a great source of enjoyment, friendship, and community. " Terri fondly recalls the extraordinary Holy Week choir this past spring, an experience like no other. What an incredible sound that even surprised the members of the choir! She affirms, "Through music, we are raising spirits and leading the church in song- one of the best ways to praise Him!”
